Key Takeaways

  • Reese's is bringing its April Fools' Day prank to life after fans stirred up buzz on social media.
  • The new product, which was teased to drum up excitement for Reese's new PB&J Big Cups, is available beginning April 8 for a limited time only.

As consumers, there are few better feelings than when our favorite brand takes customers’ suggestions or listens to their pleas. Taco Bell recently brought back a discontinued menu item so beloved that its disappearance sparked a Facebook movement. Every year, Lay’s asks fans to choose its newest chip flavor in the Do Us a Flavor competition. And the UK’s Marks & Spencer finally sent its beloved Percy Pigs candy stateside for the first time ever after fans begged.

On April 2, Reese’s proved that it knows what its customers want when it announced the new Reese's PB&J Big Cups. The new candy is Reese’s iconic Big Cup filled with the customer’s choice of strawberry or grape filling. Customers have been asking for the fan-favorite flavor duo for years, and the candy company has finally delivered—but, not without a little prank first.

The day before, on April Fools’ Day, Reese’s teased a new product release on Instagram perfect for PB&J fans: Reese’s Chocolatey Bread.

In the end, the chocolate bread filled with Reese’s Creamy Peanut Butter and jelly was just a joke to drum up excitement for the new Big Cup flavor. However, fans were actually excited about the sweet bread.

“If this isn’t real I’m going to cry,” one user wrote on the post.

“I could get behind this,” commented another.

With all the buzz the post created, Reese’s decided to make the Chocolatey Bread real—and this time, it actually is “bread serious.”

Reese’s is releasing a real Reese’s PB&J Sandwich Kit, complete with everything you need to make a chocolatey, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, including its April Fools’ Day prank come to life.

The kit features a loaf of Reese’s Chocolatey Bread (which might just be the first sweet sandwich bread of its kind on the market), plus a jar of Reese’s Creamy Peanut Butter, strawberry or grape spread, and, of course, the new Reese’s PB& J Big Cups.

While the chocolate-flavored sandwich bread is real, it might be real hard to actually get your hands on. Reese’s is only releasing a limited number of PB&J Sandwich Kits on the ShopHershey’s site. The kits will go live on Hershey’s site on April 8, where they’ll be available while supplies last. Reese’s hasn’t shared any pricing information or just how many kits will be available, so if you want to try the Reese’s Chocolatey Bread paired with peanut butter and jelly, you’ll have to have quick fingers.

Otherwise, you may just have to settle for a PB&J Big Cup until Reese’s makes Chocolatey Bread a full-time reality.
