I never even knew this was going on in the first place. But Walmart de Mexico must be doing a lot better than our local Walmart if they can be laying people off. Our local Walmart is scrounging for workers and the ones they have make it look like a zoo.

I can only imagine what this might uncover. But Native Americans will tell you that next to the actual genocide the next worst thing was separating parents and children and putting the children in boarding schools. Most Native American tribes had not only strong family ties but a village approach to raising children. And after generations of separating parents and children parenting skills were lost and they continue to struggle against that to this day.

43 years ago. That means the youngest child effected by being put in boarding school would be almost 50 years old.

In the late 1990's we down here had the same review with our aboriginal kids, it's known as "The Stolen Generation".....it was a part of the "white Australia policy".

The forceful removal of aboriginal kids from their families was happening right up until 1970.

The fact that it was acknowledged that it happened was the compensation that the aborigines needed to help them to heal.

In 2008 the government of the day said "Sorry" to all those affected by horrendous practices of past governments.

And for those cynics out there....forcefully taking kids from their families when the parents have done nothing wrong is another form of child abuse.

 

So how much in reparations were they paid???

 

I didn't really understand it myself until I actually started hanging out and substitute teaching on the Native American reservation. I assumed it was something in the distant past but to Native Americans the wounds still run incredibly deep and its still a reason to this day why many Native Americans have no trust in the federal government and white people in general. There were also lots of stories about mental, physical, and sexual abuse that I don't think most Americans have any idea of. Its another episode in our mistreatment and genocide of Native Americans that needs to be exposed.

PS I should also add this is one of the main reasons that most Native American tribes do not write things down and instead depend on oral history. I was kind of surprised the first time I attended a "Sweat" and was told since I was still in the newspaper business at the time I could write about the experience. But none of the details of how they set up sweat lodges, the procedures before the sweat and the procedures during the sweat. They maintain the US government and dominate white culture tried to wipe all that out including sending kids to boarding schools. And the only way to keep their ceremonies and other couture safe is to not write it down and keep them secret,

 

This is just strange. And apparently is in retaliation by the attacking priest being accused of drug trafficking.

This is different. Usually its Russia harassing the US. And there's another aspect worth noting.
